Hypnotherapy Frequently Asked Questions:

  • It is a natural state of focused attention. It’s actually something we all do everyday. You are not asleep, but you’re relaxed. It’s when the subconscious and the conscious come together.

  • It’s different for everyone. A long-term trauma with PTSD may take a month to notice changes and need 12+ weekly sessions, but general anxiety may see progress after 2 sessions and only need 6. It also depends on the work put in by the client between sessions.

  • Yes, hypnotherapy is a complimentary therapy and can be a great contribution to your healing alongside other therapy, and help you to get the most out of your medication. I only ask that if you are doing a talking therapy, to have hypnotherapy a couple of day after, instead of before. So our work is not undone, by talking about the past/trauma straight after session.

  • It feels ordinary, but is different for everyone. Some people visualise very clearly, others do not remember what was said. It’s a deeply relaxed state, so you might feel heavy. It can feel similar to meditation, but unlike in meditation the theta brain waves (for problem solving, motivation, focus and thinking) stay active. You might feel like you are on the edge of sleep.

  • No, you are always in control. Hypnosis cannot make you do anything you don’t want to, and you can come out of trance whenever you want.

  • Everyone is born with the natural ability to go into hypnotic trance, so everyone who wants to be hypnotised, can be. The only people we don’t work with are people in psychosis.

  • I’ve been there myself. I’ve suffered with skin conditions, anxiety, depression, trauma and specific phobia, and at one stage thought that was just my life now. I tried the medication and other therapies. Then a friend suggested Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and after 6 sessions I was like a different person. I understand first hand how difficult it can be. With my caring, supportive, and encouraging nature, we will take baby steps together. I get very invested in my clients and give each person 100%, and always remember what an honour it is to share this journey with you. I become your personal cheerleader.

  • Only what issue you would like to address, e.g. anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-worth etc. I will collect other information during the free initial consultation (such as specific symptoms and your address etc).

  • Nope. We can’t change the past, but we can change how you deal with things now and in the future. We talk about where you are today, and baby steps to take moving forward. Talking about the past and the trauma puts you through it again. The only time it might come up is in the free consultation, but you don’t have to explain anything you don’t want to.

  • No. You shouldn’t believe any therapist who offers a 100% guarantee of success. Therapeutic work is always a partnership between me, the therapist, and you, the client. I can provide the tools and resources, but the client has to use them. Whatever changes you wish to see will ultimately be carried out by you. You are responsible for your decisions, choices and mindset.

  • Sessions are 1 hour each, for £80. Or you can book a block of 6 for £450, saving £30. I also offer 10% off for emergency service workers. I do have a couple of slots offered on a sliding scale, for those unemployed/on benefits.
